Paragraphing

Paragraphs assist readers by:
  • indicating when a change is coming in the story.
  • helping readers organize the story in their minds.
  • providing a place to pause and reflect.
  • assisting readers in finding their places when they lose them while reading.  from http://www.learnnc.org/lp/pages/3852
Character Clash:  Each time a different character begins speaking, begin a new character.
http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/lesson_images/lesson117/character_clash_instructions.pdf

You could try  P.A.T.
Places an author might begin a new paragraph::
    • at the beginning of a story,
    • when the topic changes,
    • when the speaker changes,
    • when the setting changes, etc…
One way to remember to paragraph is to notice when (P) the place changes, (A) the action changes, and (T) the time changes (P-A-T).  Make it P.A.T.S. by adding (S)  the speaker changes.
